VR porn is exploding – everywhere but little Britain

These countries are leading the VR porn revolution...

Newbies often assume that virtual reality is for gamers – but as this graph shows, it’s about so much more.

One of the more X-rated areas where VR has exploded is the world of virtual adult entertainment, which according to one world-leading porn site, has had a bumper year.

Pornhub initially launched its virtual offering back in April with just 30 VR videos, and has grown to today feature more than 1,800.

Searches for VR content reached 38m in just 9 months, Pornhub revealed this week.

Among popular VR search terms were ‘360 Cam’, ‘VR Hentai’, ‘VR Anal’, ‘Shemale VR’ and ‘VR POV’.

Slow to adopt sexy VR?

The West appears to be a relatively slow adopter of VR porn, with neither Britain nor the US among Pornhub’s 10 biggest VR porn-loving countries.

Instead, Asian countries including China, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines lead the way, followed by the Nordics, Latin America and Egypt.

One possible reason for this could be the abundance of cheap headsets – on a recent trip to China, The Memo‘s Alex Wood saw row-upon-row of devices for sale in Shenzhen’s street markets.

Pornhub also deems men to be more likely to search for a VR film, but as we’ve said before, this isn’t surprising.

Likewise, the site found that its virtual content was most popular among its younger viewers – specifically in the 25-34 age bracket.

VR porn for the masses

So far Pornhub has focused on making its VR content as accessible as possible, giving away 10,000 pairs of free “Google Cardboard” glasses last year.

The affordable, disposable headset delivers a far from high-end experience, but has clearly helped to give audiences a taste of what VR can do.

As we noted in The Memo‘s year in review, the rise of VR in 2016 has been substantial: between virtual art, healthcare, travel, film, education and entertainment experiences, VR has shown its potential to change almost every aspect of how we live.

In 2017, will you embrace the X-rated potential of virtual reality, and bring VR into the bedroom?
